Best Qantas Points Credit Card

This guide is designed to deliver a comprehensive selection of the best Qantas credit cards, focused on Qantas business cards, and is a subsection of Australia’s best business credit card guide.

Below, we’ll run through each and every Qantas business card that’s currently available in Australia, as well as a selection of the best Qantas credit cards for individuals. If you’re a sole trader, you can generally access a range of both personal and business credit cards. If you’re a registered business, you’ll want to focus on our selection of Qantas business credit cards.

We’ll compare their benefits and rank each Qantas credit card (or charge card) based on the amount of Qantas Points you receive per dollar spent and by the amount of Qantas Points you can earn through each card’s welcome offer.

In total, there are six business credit cards with Qantas Points to choose from in Australia, each with its own pros and cons. There’s a much wider variety of Qantas credit cards for individuals so we’ve highlighted the top 5 for point earning capabilities.

Choose what you are looking for:

Best Business Credit Card Qantas Points – Per $1 Spent

As you’d expect, all six of the Qantas business cards currently on the market allow cardholders to earn Qantas Points each time they spend with their card.

Some cards reward you with more points when you pay for a Qantas product or service, such as booking a Qantas flight.

When selecting a card, you’ll frequently come across the term ‘everyday spend’. This covers the vast majority of your card spending, such as paying suppliers or buying a coffee, but be sure to read the T&C’s of each card to understand exactly how each provider defines ‘everyday’.

Government spend, such as ATO payments, usually earn a smaller amount of Qantas Points. And ‘Government spend’ can also involve utility companies, so be sure to check exactly how this is defined by your provider too. You may only be eligible for a smaller number of Qantas Points on things like your gas and electricity payments.

4Westpac BusinessChoice Rewards Platinum Mastercard®0.50.330.5
5CommBank Business Platinum Awards Credit Card0.400.4
6CommBank Business Awards Credit Card0.400.4

The American Express Qantas Business Rewards Card leads the way with 1.25 Qantas Points earned for every $1 of everyday spend and 2 Qantas Points earned when you buy Qantas products and services. The only area it’s beaten is on the 0.5 Qantas Points the card offers on Government spend, where, uniquely, the NAB Qantas Business card offers 0.66 Qantas Points for every $1 of your ATO payment. The same rate as everyday spending.

Unless you’re looking for a card specifically for ATO payments, the Amex Qantas Business Card will see you earn nearly 2x as many points as the NAB Qantas Business Signature Card on your everyday spend (1.25 vs 0.66).

The Qantas business credit cards available through Commbank offer the worst amount of Qantas Points per $1 spent but, in fairness, these cards are not specifically tailored to earning Qantas Points and can also be used on more general point earning schemes.

Best Business Credit Card Qantas Points – By Welcome Offer

To earn a significant number of Qantas Points in a comparatively short time frame and with comparatively small business spend, be sure to meet the required criteria which is stipulated in the welcome offer T&C’s. Five of the six Qantas business cards provide a welcome offer which can land you a substantial amount of Qantas Points. Note these offers are only available to new card holders, so if you already have a Qantas card you may want to consider switching to a different Qantas business credit card.

The Amex Qantas Business Rewards Card also offers the highest amount of bonus Qantas Points if you meet their welcome offer criteria. The 150,000 bonus Qantas Points available through the Amex Business Qantas Card beats the second place Westpac BusinessChoice Rewards Platinum Mastercard which offers 120,000 bonus Qantas Points through its welcome bonus scheme. Just be aware that the Amex criteria is a little stricter than Westpac – to qualify, you have to spend $3,000 within 2 months of your approval date, compared to Westpac which gives you 90 days following approval.

The NAB Qantas Business Card has the strictest offer terms, which require you to spend $4,000 within 60 days of account opening to earn 100,000 bonus Qantas Points. Two-thirds of the bonus Qantas Points available through Amex Qantas Business Rewards.

Of the cards to provide a welcome offer, the Bendigo Bank Qantas Business Credit Card offers the least with just 25,000 points. However, it simply requires that you are approved for the card and there’s no need to meet a minimum spend criteria within a certain timeframe.

The CommBank Business Awards Credit Card offers no sign-up bonus whatsoever.

Maximum Earning Limits

If your business has serious Qantas Point earning potential then you’ll want to be sure you’ve checked the relevant points cap for your Qantas Business Card. Generally, the lower the welcome offer and lower the point earning potential, the lower the points cap is.

Ranking Business Credit Cards with Qantas Points by Earning Cap

Qantas Business CardPoints Cap

Westpac BusinessChoice Rewards Platinum Mastercard®Maximum of 100,000 Qantas Points per facility per month

CommBank Business Platinum Awards Credit CardEarn up to 120,000 Qantas Points per year
CommBank Business Awards Credit CardEarn up to 24,000 Qantas Points per year

The Amex Qantas Business Rewards Card is the only Qantas Card to have no universal limit on the Qantas Points that can be made in any given statement period or on an annual basis. The only limitation it has is how many points that can be made via one of its exclusive points deals for booking a Qantas flight.

The annual 24,000 points cap with the CommBank Business Awards Credit Card isn’t even as high as the lowest welcome offer with any of the other Qantas cards (Bendigo Bank offering 25,000 Qantas Points on approval of your credit card).

Qantas Business Cards – In Detail

The American Express Qantas Business Rewards charge card is our best rated card to earn Qantas Points.

As of February 2023, with 2 Qantas Points for every $1 spent on Qantas products & services and 1.25 Qantas Points for every $1 spent on everyday purchases, and 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent on government charges, we think this is a better return than the 1 Qantas Point (Qantas products & services) and 0.66 points (everyday spend) available through the NAB Qantas Business Card.

Remember, as a charge card, the idea is that the card balance is paid in full each month. American Express does offer a convenient Flexible Payment Option (FPO) which acts as a line of credit and does allow Card Members to pay off a portion of their balance over time. Speak to American Express in order to understand if you would be eligible for an FPO and what your limit would be if you think you may not be able to pay your balance in full each month.

Features of the Amex Qantas Business Rewards Card include the following:

No pre-set spending limit

Unlike a traditional credit card, there is no pre-set spending limit as your Amex Qantas Business Rewards Charge Card is designed to be paid in full each month. So as your spending and repayment patterns evolve, so do your purchase approvals.

Interest Rate18.5%

The NAB Qantas Business Card just about makes it to our no.2 spot of Qantas business cards. The card has the third best welcome offer, with a potential 100,000 bonus Qantas Points for new cardholders, and has the overall second best everyday Qantas point-earning scheme. Though it has to be said, its 0.66 Qantas Points per $1 spend, or 1 Qantas point per $1.50 spend, is substantially worse than the 1.25 Qantas Points per $1 of everyday spend with Amex Qantas Business Rewards.

At $295 the annual fee is below that of the Amex Qantas Card.

The NAB Qantas Business Card operates as a traditional credit card, allowing you to run a credit balance from one statement period to the next.

Features of the NAB Qantas Business Card include the following:

Earn points on ATO payments

Payments you make to the Australian Taxation Office will earn you Qantas Points at the same rate as everyday business purchases.

Global concierge service

Make the most of Visa’s tailored 24/7 concierge service for travel and lifestyle services.

Complimentary insurance

Enjoy complimentary NAB Commercial Cards Unauthorised Transaction Insurance and NAB Commercial Cards Transit Accident Insurance.

3. Westpac BusinessChoice Rewards Platinum Mastercard®

Annual Fee$150

Qantas PromoGet 120,000 bonus Qantas Points when you spend $3,000 on eligible purchases on your new BusinessChoice Rewards Platinum Mastercard within 90 days of approval.
Interest Rate20.24% (Variable)

With 120,000 bonus Qantas Points on offer, the Westpac BusinessChoice Rewards Platinum Mastercard has the second best welcome offer of any Qantas Business Card but it has fourth-best Qantas Point-earning capabilities on everyday spend. The 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spend is someway behind the 1.25 Qantas Points per $1 with the Qantas Business Amex. Overall, the Westpac BusinessChoice Rewards card makes it as our third-place selection.

With a $150 annual fee, it comes in cheaper than the Amex Business Rewards Card and the NAB Qantas Business Card. What’s more, there are a couple of other key benefits that you get alongside

Features of the Westpac BusinessChoice Rewards Platinum Mastercard include the following:

Personal Concierge Service

Exclusively for Westpac BusinessChoice Rewards cardholders, the Personal Concierge Service lets you browse and book experiences online, including hard-to-get tickets, last-minute restaurant bookings and more.

Up to 55 days interest free on purchases

Up to 55 interest free days on purchases when you pay off your Closing Balance in full by the due date shown on your statement each month.

Complimentary insurance

Access to Interstate Flight Inconvenience Insurance and Rental Vehicle Excess in Australia cover, up to 3 months’ complimentary cover for international travel insurance, plus extended warranty, purchase protection for up to 4 months and overseas transit accident insurance.

4. Bendigo Bank Qantas Business Credit Card®

Annual Fee$89
Qantas PointsEarn 0.6 Qantas Points on eligible domestic and international transactions, 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent on selected Qantas products and services and 0.3 Qantas Points per $1 spent on eligible government transactions.
Qantas Promo25,000 bonus Qantas Points for new Qantas Business Credit Card accounts.
Interest Rate19.99%

At $89 the Bendigo Bank Qantas Business Credit Card has the lowest annual fee of any Qantas Business Card currently on the market. Coming in cheaper than the $100 fee for the CommBank Business Awards Credit Card and offering a better Qantas Point earning scheme in the process.

It’s also the only Qantas business card to offer welcome Qantas Points with no strings attached. Simply get approved for the card and you’ll be granted 25,000 Qantas Points. It goes without saying this is significantly less than the 150,000 available through Amex Qantas Business Rewards so if you’re confident you’ll meet the spending criteria outlayed by Amex then it still makes sense to go for this, if maximum Qantas Points are your goal.

The 0.6 Qantas Points per $1 spent is slightly behind the 0.66 available with NAB. Unlike NAB, Bendigo will not grant the same return for ATO payments. With the Bendigo Qantas card, 0.3 Qantas Points can be earned per $1 spent. The 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent on Qantas Products & Services is the same as NAB but half the number of points available with Amex.

Other benefits are more limited compared to other cards but there are still some extra perks to the Bendigo Bank Qantas Business Credit Card:

Extended Warranty

Extended warranty on purchases made with your credit card for up to 1 year after the original manufacturer’s warranty ends, per T&C’s.

90 day Purchase Protection

90 day purchase protection on stolen or accidentally damaged purchases when the total cost of the purchase is charged to your credit card, per T&C’s.

5. CommBank Business Platinum Awards Credit Card

Annual Fee$300
Qantas PointsEarn 0.4 Qantas Points for every dollar you spend on your Awards Mastercard.
Qantas PromoGet 50,000 Qantas Points when you spend $4,000 on eligible purchases within 90 days of activation.
Interest Rate20.74%

With a $300 annual fee, the CommBank Business Platinum Awards Credit Card is the second most expensive Qantas card currently on the market, trailing only the Amex Qantas Business Card, which offers the best Qantas Points welcome offer and the most Qantas Points per $1 spent.

To opt-in to earn Qantas Points it’s $30 per year, lower than if you had no Qantas Credit Card at all but as far as we’re aware, CommBank is the only provider not to give business card holders this for free.

In fairness, the CommBank cards are not as centrally focused on Qantas and come with their own bonus schemes which can be used for cashback, making purchases or even to 10 other airline partners.

Features of the CommBank Business Platinum Awards Credit Card include:

55 days interest free

Get up to 55 days interest free on purchases, so you can keep cash in your account longer.

Transferable points

Transfer points to other travel programs – transfer your points from the CommBank Awards program to over 10 airline partners, including Velocity Frequent Flyer.

Complimentary insurance

Transit Accident Insurance and Unauthorised Transaction Insurance included, per T&C’s.

6. CommBank Business Awards Credit Card

Annual Fee$100
Qantas PointsEarn 0.4 Qantas Points for every dollar you spend on your Awards Mastercard.
Qantas PromoNone.
Interest Rate20.74%

By nature, the CommBank Business Awards Credit Card offers less perks than the CommBank Business Platinum Awards Credit Card. With a $100 annual fee, it also comes in $200 cheaper than CommBank’s Platinum Card. Crucially, the  CommBank Business Awards Credit Card caps you to earning a maximum of 24,000 Qantas Points per year. The Platinum Card allows you to earn up to 120,000.

The only card it’s more expensive than is the Bendigo Bank Qantas Business Credit Card, which has an $89 annual fee. And we have to say if you’re looking for a low-fee card specifically for Qantas Points then the Bendigo Bank Qantas Card is a better choice than the CommBank Business Awards Credit Card.

Features of the CommBank Business Awards Credit Card are similar to the Platinum Card and include:

55 days interest free

Get up to 55 days interest free on purchases, so you can keep cash in your account longer.

Transferable points

Transfer points to other travel programs – transfer your points from the CommBank Awards program to over 10 airline partners, including Velocity Frequent Flyer.

Complimentary insurance

Transit Accident Insurance and Unauthorised Transaction Insurance included, per T&C’s.

Qantas Points Cards for Individuals

If it’s an option, you’ll want to consider the wide range of personal credit cards that earn Qantas Points too. Compared to business cards, personal credit cards may have lower fees and a longer 0% introductory interest rate offer for new cardholders. Personal credit cards can be used to pay for everyday essentials like groceries, petrol and utility bills. Expenses which, in many instances, can be of benefit to your business too.

The sheer variety of personal Qantas credit cards means there’s something to suit every preference and every budget.

Best Personal Credit Card Qantas Points – Per $1 Spent

Like Qantas business cards, all of the personal Qantas credit cards allow you to earn Qantas points as you spend. However, contrary to business cards, the point earning schemes are different. Whilst business cards stipulate different point- earning capabilities for day-to-day and government spend, the personal cards grant different point-earning capabilities for domestic and international spend. The one similarity which continues is the capacity to earn more Bonus Qantas points for purchasing Qantas products & services.

Some personal Qantas cards also provide more Qantas points when you spend at select restaurants, supermarkets and petrol stations. This can vary from provider-to-provider so read the T&C’s and choose a card that matches your shopping habits and relevant outlets that you visit.

Most Qantas business cards have a hard limit on the number of points you can earn in one statement period or per annum. Personal Qantas cards have more of a soft limit, in which you earn a smaller number of points once the threshold is met in each statement period. These limits are stipulated below.

Ranking Qantas Business Cards by Point Earning Capabilities

Qantas Personal CardDomesticInternationalAfter Statement Limit Reached (Limit Value)Qantas Products & Services
1Qantas Premier Titanium1.2520.5 ($12,500)2 additional points per $1
2Qantas Premier Platinum11.50.5 ($10,000)1 additional point per $1
3BOQ Specialist Signature Card11.50.5 ($10,000)1 additional point per $1
4Citi Prestige Qantas Card1.5 / 1 / 0.51.5No limitNo additional points
5NAB Qantas Rewards Signature Card110.5 ($5,000 – $20,000) / 0 after $20,0001 additional point per $1

The two cards offering the best Qantas points redemption are the two cards offered directly through Qantas (or at least through Qantas under a white label with National Australia Bank).

The absolute most points one can earn is through the Qantas Premier Titanium card. The card provides 1.25 Qantas points per $1 spent domestically and 2 Qantas points per $1 spent abroad. It’s also the only card to offer an additional 2 bonus points for spend on Qantas products and services. The catch? With a $1,200 annual fee, it’s the most expensive personal Qantas credit card on the market. To qualify, you also need a minimum salary of $200,000. It’s a premium card (made of metal) that comes with a premium fee. Still, if you’re a frequent Qantas flyer and plan to put the card to good use, you’ll reach a point where the points redemption is worth the outlay.

The Qantas Premier Platinum card allows you to earn 1 Qantas point per $1 domestic spend and 1.5 points per $1 international spend. It’s much more accessible – there’s no minimum salary requirements and, at $299 ($249 in your first year), the annual fee is significantly cheaper than the Titanium card.

The Specialist Signature Card provider by the Bank of Queensland offers the same Qantas points return – 1 point per $1 spent domestically and 1.5 points overseas. It even has the same soft limit of $10,000 per statement period as the Qantas Premier Platinum card. Once this limit is hit your earning is then reduced to 0.5 points per $1 spend.

The Citi Prestige Qantas card has a very interesting points redemption package that allows you to earn up to 1.5 points per $1 spent domestically at major airlines, hotel chains and restaurants. That’s even more than the Qantas Premier Platinum at these select merchants but remember the Platinum card gives you a flat 1.25 points per $1 spent across all everyday spend in Australia which is much more likely to work in your favour when you look at it on a total basis. The Citi Prestige Qantas card is also Citi’s premium offering, meaning it comes with an annual fee of $749.

Rounding off the top five is the NAB Qantas Rewards Signature Card, offering a flat 1 Qantas point per domestic and international spend, plus an additional 1 point per $1 spent on Qantas products and services.

Ranking Personal Qantas Credit Cards by Sign up Bonus Points

When it comes to earning points fast, the same applies for personal credit cards as it does business cards. The Qantas credit card welcome offers allow you to earn a hefty amount of Qantas Points with a comparatively small business spend and quick turnaround. Just be sure to meet the required criteria of the offer terms. You wont get a second stab at it and these offers are for new card holders only.

What differentiates some personal Qantas cards from business cards is a year 2 ‘kicker’ of extra Qantas points, encouraging you to stick with your current credit card after the initial 12 months are up. We explain more about the cards which have this benefit below.

Qantas Personal CardQantas Points – Welcome Offer
1Qantas Premier Titanium150,000 bonus Qantas Points when you spend $5,000 within 3 months of your approval.
2NAB Qantas Rewards Signature Card120,000 bonus Qantas Points. 90,000 bonus points when you spend $3,000 on everyday purchases within the first 60 days of account opening and 30,000 bonus points when you keep your card for over 12 months.
3Westpac Altitude Qantas Black Credit Card120,000 bonus Qantas Points. 90,000 bonus points in year 1 if you spend $6,000 within 120 days of new card approval and an extra 30,000 points after your first eligible purchase in year 2.
4ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Credit Card110,000 bonus Qantas Points + $255 back to your new ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Card when you spend $5,000 on eligible purchases in the first 3 months.
5Citi Premier Qantas Card100,000 bonus Qantas Points. 70,000 bonus points when you spend $6,000 on eligible purchases within 90 days from approval and 30,000 bonus points when you keep your card for over 12 months.

It may come as no surprise that the Qantas Premier Titanium card also offers the best welcome offer. Spend $5,000 within 3 months of approval and you can earn a significant 150,000 bonus Qantas Points.

Both the NAB Qantas Rewards Signature Card and the Westpac Altitude Qantas Black Credit Card provide the second best ‘welcome offer’ but stagger the points in what is a more common approach for personal cards. New cardholders can earn 90,000 bonus Qantas Points if they meet the relevant spending criteria stipulated in the welcome offer and are then provided with an additional 30,000 points in year 2 of having the card. There’s no minimum salary requirement to access the NAB Qantas Rewards Signature Card but a minimum salary of $75,000 is required to access the Westpac Altitude Qantas Black Credit Card. The cards have an annual fee of $395 and $250, respectively.

With 110,000, the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Credit Card provides a greater number of Qantas Bonus Points upfront. Simply spend $5,000 on eligible purchases in the first 3 months from approval. There’s no minimum salary requirements but you have to be eligible for a minimum credit limit of $15,000 and there’s a $425 annual fee.

The Citi Premier Card makes it to the number five spot and provides 70,000 Bonus Qantas points when you meet the welcome offer criteria, plus an additional 30,000 points after 12 months. The annual fee is $350. The Citi Prestige card offers a flat 100,000 bonus Qantas Points when you spend $7,500 on eligible purchases within 60 days from approval but we chose to also highlight the Premier card due to its lower annual fee.

Best Qantas Points Credit Card

There’s no doubt that the Qantas Premier Titanium card provides the best welcome offer and best point redemption capabilities on everyday spend. It’s the only card to offer over 1 point on domestic spend without restrictions (Citi’s card only offers more at select outlets) and it’s the only card to provide an additional 2 bonus points on Qantas Products and Services. The welcome offer of 150,000 points is easily the best for earning Qantas points fast.

Best No Fee Qantas Points Credit Card

Though it does not make it in the top five of welcome offers or point earning capabilities, the The Qantas American Express Discovery Credit Card deserves a mention for the ability to earn a flat 0.75 Qantas Points for domestic spend. You also get a bonus 1 Qantas Point (total 1.75 Qantas Points) when you purchase Qantas products and services. There’s no welcome offer but the Qantas Point-earning capabilities are equal to or better than many other Qantas credit cards on the market.

Final Take –  Credit Cards With Qantas Points (Business Focused)

Of the six Qantas Business Cards currently available in Australia, the Amex Qantas Business Rewards Card ranks top for having both the largest welcome bonus and for earning the most Qantas Points on your everyday spend. It’s also the only card with no maximum cap on the number of Qantas Points you can earn in any given month or year. If earning Qantas Points is your primary goal, then it’s fair to say this is the card for you. The other Qantas Business Credit Cards fall someway behind Amex. Just be aware that the Qantas Business Amex has the highest annual fee and is a charge card, i.e. it’s designed to be repaid in full each month.

So if you’re wanting a business card where you can run a credit balance beyond your statement period, check out the NAB Qantas Business Card. If you’re looking for a card with a low annual fee and a welcome offer which requires no minimum spend, the Bendigo Bank Qantas Business Credit Card is another good option. If you’re considering a personal Qantas credit card then weigh up whether it’s worth applying for a card with a higher annual fee, in return for greater welcome offers and point earning capabilities. A number of personal cards also provide interest free periods if you make a balance transfer.
